Alexander Zverev didn't miss his Canadian debut - quite the opposite, in fact.
Having lost his Olympic crown to Musetti in the quarter-finals in Paris (7-5, 7-5), the German was keen to make up for it.
Seeded number 2 in Canada, Zverev impressed on his debut, beating Thompson in 1 hour (6-1, 6-1).
Carried along by a very high level of tennis, the 27-year-old left no space for a somewhat outmatched Australian.
Strong on serve and powerful in the rallies, he booked his place in the last 16, where Holger Rune awaits him.
