Sinner assured of remaining world No.1 until Monte Carlo
Jannik Sinner, despite being sidelined from the ATP circuit following his suspension, will officially retain his position as world No.1 for a further seven weeks.
Indeed, Alexander Zverev's quarter-final defeat in Rio means that he is certain to remain at the pinnacle of men's tennis until the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000, which begins on April 6.
The German will have to win everything in his path (Acapulco, Indian Wells, Miami) to earn 2,500 points and give himself the opportunity to become world No. 1 at the end of the Monaco tournament.
Sinner will become the 13th player with the most weeks (44) as world No.1, overtaking such former legends as Ilie Nastase (40 weeks), Andy Murray (41 weeks) and Gustavo Kuerten (43 weeks).
