Soon to retire, Thiem hopes to have inspired Austrians to play tennis!
It's been known for several weeks now that Dominic Thiem will no longer be a professional tennis player in 2025, and is therefore currently enjoying the last tournaments of his career.
The gifted Austrian has inspired an entire generation, even shaking the hegemony of the "big three" for a while. As he bids farewell, 'Domi' opened up about what he hopes will be his legacy:
"I hope that a lot of children, especially in Austria, because I'm Austrian and that's probably where I'm best known, will start playing tennis because of me. That would be the most important legacy."
Asked about current tennis, the former world number 3 also gave his opinion on the subject, explaining that there was no reason to be worried about the future of our sport:
"Some players from the older generation are still playing extraordinary tennis, and the new generation is extraordinary too.
Today, there are already two players who have been number 1, Sinner and Alcaraz, who are fantastic and play excellent tennis. I love watching them, and probably all the fans do too. Yes, tennis is in very good hands."
