Statistics - Alcaraz/Zverev, the 10th 5-set final in Open history

Statistics - Alcaraz/Zverev, the 10th 5-set final in Open history

5-set finals aren't exactly commonplace at Roland-Garros. Since the beginning of the Open era (1968), the tournament has only offered us 10 5-set final encounters, all in 57 editions (between 1968 and 2024). Even more striking: in 25 tournaments in the 21st century, this is only the third time that the final has been played in 5 sets (after Gaudio's victory over Coria in 2004 and Djokovic's over Tsitsipas in 2021).

This statistic, proposed by the "Jeu, Set et Maths" account on Twitter, gives us an idea of the rarity of the final proposed by Zverev and Alcaraz on Sunday.

A look at the tournament's record books also reveals that most of the players who have won 5-set matches in the final have gone down in tennis history: Borg, Lendel, Chang, Courier, Agassi, Djokovic...

A good omen for 'Carlito'?

Andy has withdrawn, Most sensible decision he's made this afternoon, to be honest. Sad to see the match end this way. 😢

Andy is clearly struggling with an injury atm, so why carry on & aggravate it even more, especially with Wimbledon coming up 🤔
