On April 16 and 17, Jannik Sinner will appear before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to hear the verdict on the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) appeal of his clostebol doping case.
Interviewed by La Stampa, WADA spokesman James Fitzgerald once again spoke of the possible suspension of the world number 1:
"We believe that the conclusion 'no fault and no negligence' is incorrect in terms of the regulations in force, and we are asking for a suspension of between one and two years.
WADA is not requesting the annulment of any results, with the exception of those already annulled in the first instance."
He also mentioned a possible change in the rules concerning these contamination situations: "We are aware of the problems generated following contamination cases and we are fighting against this.
Over the years, the minimum quantities of certain substances have been adjusted to ensure fairness for athletes who unintentionally ingest a banned substance.
I can confirm that the rules concerning contamination are under review at the moment."
