ATP Finals – Zverev's candid take: "Alcaraz and Sinner are in another dimension"
Before starting his tournament in Turin, Alexander Zverev offered a frank analysis: for him, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are far ahead of the tour. But the two-time Masters winner promises he hasn't said his last word yet.
For the eighth time in his career, Alexander Zverev is among the top eight players of the season. The German, although disappointing in 2025, hopes to end his year on a positive note, in a tournament he has won twice before.
During the ATP Finals Media Day, the world No. 3, placed in the same group as Jannik Sinner, Ben Shelton, and Félix Auger-Aliassime, discussed the dominance imposed by the Alcaraz-Sinner duo this season:
"Honestly, I think everyone is far behind Carlos and Jannik at the moment. It's not a feeling, it's the reality. This year, I had recurring physical problems and some health issues.
But when I was feeling good, like in recent weeks in Vienna and Paris, I was able to show some good tennis. When I am at 100%, I feel capable of competing with the best players in the world."
Zverev was also asked about the group draw and which opponent he would have preferred to face between Alcaraz and Sinner:
"To be honest, it doesn't change much. Well... it does, a little, but they are the two best players in the world anyway. On this surface, indoors and with fast conditions — I find the court faster than in Paris — I think Jannik is the strongest.
Carlos would probably agree with me. Obviously, at this level, anyone can beat anyone, but these last two years, I was in Carlos's group and I beat him every time. So no, I didn't really have a preference. In fact, I was even hoping they would be in the same group."
