A tribute was paid in Athens to Nikola Pilic, who passed away on September 22nd. A former world No. 12 in 1973, he was also the mentor of Novak Djokovic.
After his victory against Alejandro Tabilo, the Serb spoke about Pilic and appeared very emotional.
He stated: "Niki was more than just a mentor and coach to me. He was part of our family for my brothers and me, and he helped us immensely.
Without him, I certainly wouldn't be the person I am today. He passed away two months ago, and I would like to ask for your support and patience to grant him the respect and pay him the tribute he deserves, to him, the legend that he is."
