The surprise of the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam is Mattia Bellucci. The Italian, aged 23 and ranked 92nd in the world, reached the semi-finals in the Netherlands after qualifying.
On his way, he eliminated Daniil Medvedev (6-3, 6-7, 6-3) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (6-4, 6-2).
Bellucci's fairytale continues, and he'll be aiming to achieve another feat this Saturday against Alex De Minaur.
After his victory over the Greek, Bellucci was satisfied with his week.
"I've worked hard to get to this point. I talked about it with my coach, Fabio Chiappini, because he said that sometimes I thought too much on the court when I should be playing free.
It's a big challenge, because against the great opponents I meet here, I don't always feel up to it. Against Tsitsipas, when I served to win the first set, I felt that my legs were a bit heavy.
I'm not really thinking about the prize money or the rankings. I'm still young.
What's really important is to go out there every day thinking that I can compete and that I can win against this kind of opponent.
I want to keep progressing, and every match is important in that respect", he assured Tennis World Italia.
