Bellucci after her victory over Medvedev: "The idea was to have fun on the court".
Mattia Bellucci scored the greatest victory of his career this Wednesday in Rotterdam, beating Daniil Medvedev in three sets.
The Italian's style of play stood out, alternating between serve-and-volley, powerful groundstrokes and even spoon serves.
In the end, he put Medvedev to the sword with a very precise tactic in mind, as he explained in a post-match interview:
"The idea was to have fun on the court and be myself as much as possible.
I used the serve-volley a lot, because I knew it could be a weapon against him. The spoon serve too.
As I said before, I really wanted to play my game. I could see that he was a long way off on the return. And I said to myself: 'If I don't do it now, I'll never do it'."
