Medvedev surprised by Bellucci in Rotterdam!

Daniil Medvedev was eliminated in the 2nd round of the Rotterdam ATP 500 by Mattia Bellucci after almost three hours of play and three sets (6-3, 6-7, 6-3).

The Russian, who wasn't having the best of days, wasn't opportunistic enough on break points (1 break point out of 12 converted) to endanger the Italian, who went on to score the biggest win of his career.

Bellucci, ranked 92nd in the world, was buoyed by a powerful serve, a committed style of play and the ability to deliver unpredictable shots. He had won his first match point in the tie-break of the second set, before finally breaking Medvedev at the end of the third set.

He will face the winner of the match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Tallon Griekspoor in the quarter-finals.

For his part, Medvedev has just suffered his second defeat of the season against a much lower-ranked opponent, and still seems to be searching for his best form.
