Aleksandar Kovacevic is enjoying the best week of his career on the ATP circuit.
The American, ranked 102nd in the world and a qualifier, defeated world No.10 Andrey Rublev in the semi-finals in Montpellier on Saturday (7-5, 6-4).
Kovacevic had started the match with a break, which he gave up a few games later at 4-3.
Solid on the baseline against the Russian's powerful shots, he managed to make the difference just before the tie-break, pushing Rublev to the foul on his second set point.
The two men continued at the same pace in the second set, delivering some fine winners to the spectators on the Patrice Dominguez court.
Finally, at 5-4, 40-15, Rublev's last backhand into the net sent Kovacevic through to his first ATP Tour final.
He will play tomorrow against Felix Auger-Aliassime, who qualified earlier in the day by beating Jesper De Jong (6-4, 7-6).
