Rublev: "Confidence is gradually returning, even if fear remains".
Andrey Rublev hasn't got his 2025 season off to a convincing start, with first-round defeats in Hong Kong and at the Australian Open.
However, he's calmer on the court and is doing real work on himself to improve his behavior during matches.
At a press conference in Rotterdam, he took stock of his mental health and offered some advice to the younger generation: "I tell myself that confidence has to come back little by little, step by step.
Every day, I still feel a bit of fear. I tell myself I've done it today, but maybe the next day my demons will come back.
It's like someone who's addicted to something: every day, they feel a little fear.
Today I succeeded, but who knows if I'll succeed tomorrow or not.
I don't know what advice I could give to the younger generation. The simplest thing I can say is to always be honest with yourself.
99% of people in the world, even if they think they are, are not 100% honest with themselves.
It's important to accept yourself. If you have a problem, the first thing to do is to put aside your complexity and your ego.
Listen to your body, your voice: it's all inside. It's all about you."
Rublev will play his quarter-final in Rotterdam against Hubert Hurkacz this Friday, in the evening session.
