Rune's mother explains her son's defeat in Rotterdam: "He had to stay in bed all day".

Rune's mother explains her son's defeat in Rotterdam: He had to stay in bed all day.

Holger Rune was beaten in two sets yesterday by Pedro Martinez, a player far from a specialist in indoor conditions.

After the Dane's unexpected defeat, his mother Aneke spoke to Danish media outlet TV2: "He caught the flu in Denmark after the Davis Cup, and he wasn't feeling well in the match against Sonego.

He had a high fever and we had to consult a doctor. After that, he stayed in bed all day."

For his part, Rune admitted that he had had a "very bad night" before his match, which explains the level displayed by the world No. 12 on Rotterdam's center court yesterday.

It's a job right? So like any other job when you have the flu, (because it's contagious), you should stay home to recover and avoid the risk of contaminating others. So if you are sick and decide to go to work and your performance sucks at your job, don't make excuses because you opted to go to work.
