"If there's a party, I'm coming!": Djokovic at 3 a.m. after his battle against Musetti at Roland-Garros 2024
At 3 a.m., in the Parisian night, a drained Novak Djokovic had just overturned Lorenzo Musetti in the dead of night. A look back at this historic moment from the 2024 edition of Roland-Garros.
It was nearly 3 a.m. when Djokovic, after more than four and a half hours of a grueling battle, finally raised his arms to the sky. Facing him, a brilliant Musetti during the first three sets. But as often, the Serbian champion found the key to reverse the trend. Result: a five-set victory (7-5, 6-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0), and a qualification for the round of 16.
Finally, in the crowd, some children, still there despite the ungodly hour: "My friend, you must sleep, what are you doing here?" Djokovic called out to them, jokingly. Before continuing: "Impossible to sleep with all this adrenaline. If there's a party somewhere, I'm coming!"
Thus, this late-night match finish will remain as one of the craziest moments of the 2024 tournament.
But if this victory after 4h30 of play already seemed incredible given his age, the Serbian didn't stop there as he repeated it in the next round: a five-set success (6-1, 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3) against Cerundolo (4h39).
Unfortunately for him, Djokovic could not secure his place in the quarter-finals, tired and injured in the knee.
