Jannik Sinner Withdraws from Davis Cup

As the Davis Cup finals approach: Jannik Sinner, leader of Italian tennis, withdraws from participation. Filippo Volandri thus announces a strong team but deprived of its best player.
This is a significant decision affecting Italian tennis: Jannik Sinner, former world number one and hero of previous editions, will not compete in the 2025 Davis Cup finals in Bologna.
Despite persistent doubts about his physical condition and availability, many hoped the 24-year-old player would make one last effort to defend Italy's colors. But the decision has been made: Sinner will not be part of the team.
"The Davis Cup is, and will remain, always his home," Volandri reminded. Because Sinner's absence does not erase the ambitions of an Italy seeking a third consecutive title.
Here are the five names chosen by Volandri:
- Lorenzo Musetti (world No. 8), now team leader
- Flavio Cobolli, very close to the Top 20
- Matteo Berrettini, seeking redemption after a difficult season
- Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, essential duo for doubles
