Thomas Ceccon, Olympic Champion, Explains: "Jealous of Sinner? That's Stupid"

"A gigantic nonsense": that's how Thomas Ceccon describes the accusations of jealousy toward Sinner. In an interview relayed by Tennis World Italia, the Italian swimmer, Olympic champion in 2024, explains himself.
Last summer, in a statement given to "La Repubblica," the Italian swimmer expressed his admiration for Jannik Sinner, while pointing out the abysmal pay gaps between tennis and swimming. But that was all it took for some to see a hint of envy. An attack to which the world champion responded.
"To say that I'm jealous of Sinner? A gigantic nonsense. I was asked a question about the visibility of tennis compared to swimming. It's a fact: a Wimbledon winner pockets millions, we, if all goes well, earn $15,000.
It's a reality, not a complaint. Titles, likes, clicks... everything gets distorted. And quickly becomes insignificant. I've become a fan of Jannik. What he does is incredible. Tennis gives you a thousand chances to bounce back. In swimming, everything is decided in a few seconds."
For reference, Thomas Ceccon, 24, won the gold medal in the 100-meter backstroke at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
