ATP Paris: Bublik Ousts Fritz and Reaches His First Masters 1000 Quarterfinal Since 2021
Alexander Bublik has struck again. The unpredictable Kazakh player tamed Taylor Fritz, 7-6, 6-2, to secure his first quarterfinal at the Rolex Paris Masters and his third victory of the season against a member of the world's Top 5.
You never know which Alexander Bublik will step onto the court. The one who gets frustrated and loses focus, or the one capable of shattering expectations. This Thursday, it was the latter who showed up against world No. 4 Taylor Fritz.
On the Centre Court in Nanterre, the 28-year-old player delivered 32 winners and was never broken. After snatching the first set in a tie-break, he rolled through his tennis to dominate the second set (6-2) and claim his 5th career victory against a Top 5 player.
This quarterfinal in Paris also marks his first in a Masters 1000 since 2021. With this win, Bublik keeps a slim hope alive for qualifying for the ATP Finals. He would need another major performance in Paris to believe in it until the very end.
Now, he awaits the result of the match between De Minaur and Khachanov to find out his next opponent.
