Lawn tennis and the potential British threat

Grass is the historic surface of tennis. It is the sport's oldest (1873). For decades, the British have been perceived as a serious threat. And not without reason. The history of lawn tennis is deeply rooted in England (Wimbledon).

We also have to take into account the particularity of this surface, which stands out for its speed and relatively low bounce. It therefore requires specific adaptation. In this sense, UK-trained players who have grown up on the surface have an instinctive ability to adapt.

At these tournaments, they can often spring surprises. For example, Liam Broady, ranked 142nd in the world, beat Norwegian Casper Ruud in the second round of Wimbledon 2023 (6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0).

Recent results have once again demonstrated their talent. Last week's titles for Jack Draper and Katie Boulter are a case in point. In the final, they respectively beat Matteo Berrettini (3-6, 7-6, 6-4) in Stuttgart and Karolina Pliskova (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) in Nottingham.

The British players will be keeping a close watch over the coming weeks. They will be a constant threat to the world's best throughout this tour.
