Daniil Medvedev, who has qualified for the semi-finals in Marseille this week, spoke at a press conference about the failure of his generation (Zverev, Tsitsipas, Ruud...) to win Grand Slam titles.
He believes that, despite the current domination orchestrated by Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, his generation still has every chance of winning major tournaments:
"The beauty of tennis is that anything can happen. We've seen a lot of things in the history of this sport. In tennis, there are no certainties.
Sinner and Alcaraz at the moment look like they're going to win a lot of Grand Slams. That's for sure. How many each? We don't know (smile).
Zverev was already in the final against Alcaraz, so he could have won the French Open. Against Sinner, it wasn't as easy, let's say in terms of the score. He could do it next time if he gets the chance.
It's the same for Fritz, he was in the US Open final. As for Tsitsipas, I think he's still a big favorite for the French Open. The same goes for Casper Ruud.
I think they can win a Grand Slam and so can I. Will Sinner and Alcaraz win more? I think so.
But in tennis, you never know. Injuries, other things... There are far too many things that can happen."
