The US Open caused controversy a few days ago when it announced a complete overhaul of the mixed doubles format.
The changes angered many specialists in the discipline, but for Taylor Fritz, interviewed prior to his Delray Beach debut, it was a necessary change:
"I think it's going to be fun, a lot of people are going to be excited about the format. And I really love mixed doubles, so there's a chance I'll play it.
I think, for people like me, it's a good change. Obviously, my opinion is biased because it's at a better time and I don't have to play it at the same time as the singles matches.
Otherwise, I wouldn't play it. A lot of doubles players are going to be angry about this, but mixed doubles, as it was, didn't bring much to the Grand Slams.
It doesn't create much enthusiasm among the fans, it doesn't fill the stadiums. People will be more excited to see singles players playing it together."
