Siniakova/Townsend win Australian Open women's doubles title
A few hours before the Australian Open 2025's eagerly-awaited final between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, women's doubles took center stage on Rod Laver Arena.
Number 1 seeds in Melbourne, Katerina Siniakova/Taylor Townsend challenged number 3 seeds Hsieh Su-wei and Jelena Ostapenko.
At the end of a three-set match, it was Siniakova and Townsend who finally had the last word in the deciding set (6-2, 6-7, 6-3).
This is their second Grand Slam title together, having triumphed at Wimbledon last year. The two players also reached the semi-finals of the US Open a few months ago.
This is Townsend's second Grand Slam doubles title, while Siniakova is crowned doubles champion for the 10th time in her career.
She has won this category of tournaments in partnership with Barbora Krejcikova (7 titles), Coco Gauff (1) and Taylor Townsend (2).
The Czech becomes the first player to win 10 women's doubles trophies in a Major since Martina Hingis, who reached this total at Wimbledon in 2015.
