“A Profitable Operation, Period”: Rennae Stubbs' Anger After the Sabalenka–Kyrgios Duel in Dubai
The “Battle of the Sexes” is not a recent invention. In 1973, the historic duel between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs had marked the spectators of the time.
And fifty-two years later, the concept reappeared in Dubai, carried by two explosive figures on the circuit: Aryna Sabalenka and Nick Kyrgios.
A highly publicized event that provoked the anger of some observers of the game.
Rennae Stubbs Lashes Out
Former top-level player, multiple doubles champion and influential voice in women's tennis, Rennae Stubbs expressed her contempt in an interview relayed by Tennis World Italia:
“Let's call things by their name. It was a profitable operation, period. No top-level woman can compete with a good male player. It's physically impossible. But the money was made. So I hope it was worth it.”
Harsh words that add to the many criticisms already voiced.
