Alcaraz Easily Dismisses Darderi and Notches His 80th Grand Slam Win

Alcaraz faced Darderi (ranked 34th) in the third round of the US Open. This was the first duel between the two players.
Impressive in the first two rounds, the Spaniard once again proved very solid in overcoming the Italian in just under two hours of play (6-2, 6-4, 6-0).
Despite a minor hiccup in the second set, the native of El Palmar did not falter as he advanced to the round of 16 at Flushing Meadows. He notably handed his opponent a bagel in the third set. Physically drained from the Olympics, he had been eliminated at this stage of the competition last year.
Without dropping a set, he secured his 4th qualification for the second week in New York, all in just 5 appearances. With a record of 57 wins and 6 losses this season, he will now take on the winner of the all-French match between Bonzi and Rinderknech for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Thanks to this result, he has reached 80 Grand Slam victories at just 22 years old.
