Alcaraz on the world number 1 spot: "It's not a big deal if I don't finish the year at the top of the rankings"

Alcaraz on the world number 1 spot: It's not a big deal if I don't finish the year at the top of the rankings

Carlos Alcaraz is seeking his first title at the Masters. In an interview with Spanish media, the world number 2 shared his goals for the ATP Finals.

Alcaraz will compete in the ATP Finals for the third time in his career, and the third consecutive time. A semi-finalist two years ago, he was eliminated in the group stage last year and therefore hopes to do better.

In a group consisting of Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz, and Alex De Minaur, the world number 2, who is not always comfortable indoors, will have to raise his level to try and win the Masters tournament for the first time.

The 22-year-old player has certainly shared his thoughts before his first match and has goals in mind for the coming days. He was also asked about a potential return to the top of the rankings at the end of the season.

"It's a difficult group. The eight best players of the year are present and they are all very strong. We are going to give it our all. The matches in my group are going to be spectacular, both to play and to watch.

We are going to do our best to qualify for the semi-finals. The season has gone very well. The only downside is that it's not over yet, which makes it difficult to think about next year's goals while two very important tournaments are fast approaching.

Before the pre-season, we will get together to see what we can improve. It's not a big deal if I don't finish the year at the top of the rankings. I think it's a great battle between Jannik (Sinner) and me to see who will finish number one.

If he finishes first, it's because he deserves it and he has had a magnificent end to the season. He won in Vienna, he just won in Paris, and if he finishes first, it's because he will have won here (in Turin) and he deserves it.

I, obviously, will try to fight so that doesn't happen. But if I don't manage it, it won't be a disappointment," Alcaraz assured in recent hours to Marca.
