On the occasion of Rafael Nadal's retirement announcement, RTBF interviewed Steve Darcis at some length on the subject.
As a reminder, the Belgian had, against all odds, beaten Rafael Nadal in the first round of Wimbledon in 2013 (7-6, 7-6, 6-4).
I said it at the time, I really thought I could win at 7-6, 7-6, 5-4 40-15, so really on match point.
That's when I said to myself that maybe I could do it. But before that, right up to the last minute, you're thinking, well, he's going to get away with it again, it's going to be hell again.
Before the match point, yes, honestly, I couldn't believe it. It just seemed too huge, in fact."
