Coco Gauff, although challenged by Kamilla Rakhimova in the first set with 8 break points conceded, held her ground by winning 6-4, 6-0. She recorded 4 aces against 5 double faults.
It didn't take long for Leylah Fernandez to dispatch Maria Sakkari. The Canadian won 6-2, 6-0 in just 1 hour and 15 minutes of play. She will face Gauff in the next round.
Sofia Kenin also made a successful debut by defeating Polina Kudermetova 6-4, 6-2. She will play against Jasmine Paolini or Anastasija Sevastova in the next round.
