Between the raindrops, Sinner ends Mannarino's run in Cincinnati

Jannik Sinner held his ground against Adrian Mannarino (6-4, 7-6) in the round of 16 at the Cincinnati Masters 1000.
Though the matchup seemed lopsided on paper, Mannarino put up a strong fight against the world No. 1. Sinner sealed the first set with an early break in the third game, but the match was then interrupted by rain at the start of the second set.
The two players returned to Center Court nearly three hours after the last point was played.
Shaken by Mannarino's play, Sinner lost his serve while serving for the match at 6-5. It was in the tie-break—just like in his previous round against Diallo—that the Italian ultimately prevailed, though not without difficulty, against the French veteran.
Sinner, now through to the quarterfinals of a Masters 1000 for the ninth consecutive time (the fourth player since 1990 to achieve this feat), also extends his hard-court winning streak to 24 matches. He will face Félix Auger-Aliassime or Benjamin Bonzi for a spot in the semifinals.
After a tricky start to the season, Mannarino continues his climb back up the rankings and will return to the top 80 after the tournament.
