Björn Borg admits: "I regret having abandoned tennis" — the heartbreaking confession of a legend
At 26 and while at the peak of his career, Björn Borg had made the decision to stop his career, with 11 Grand Slams in his pocket (6 French Open, 5 Wimbledon) and 66 titles in total.
"I regret having abandoned tennis"
In an interview given to Marca this Wednesday, the Swedish champion returned to this decision that had, at the time, taken the tennis world by surprise:
"I had lost motivation. I don't regret it, because I needed to feel good mentally to continue, and that wasn't the case. What I regret, however, is having abandoned tennis.
It was a stupid decision, because I had many friends. I often wondered why I had made that decision. I chose another life instead of keeping the one I already had, and that, yes, I regret it."
