British Tennis Federation bans transgender players from national competitions
The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has taken a decision concerning transgender women entering national and interclub tournaments in Great Britain.
From January 25, 2025, transgender women will no longer be allowed to take part in national events that are not under the aegis of the ITF or WTA.
The LTA has justified this decision on the grounds of "sporting fairness" and the "differences in strength, power, endurance and anatomy that exist between men and women".
The British Federation also mentions "an advantage possessed by men when playing against women".
This decision will not apply to the Wimbledon and WTA tournaments held in Great Britain, as they are considered international tournaments.
On the WTA circuit, transgender women are allowed to play, but must have their hormone levels monitored and have changed gender for at least four years.
