Carreno Busta topples Korda in Cincinnati!
It's safe to say that no one was expecting this victory.
In a duel between an in-form Sebastian Korda, on the back of a title in Washington and a semi-final in Montreal, and a Pablo Carreno Busta who had just returned from a long and serious injury and had won only one match since his return to the main circuit, against Marozsan in Montreal last week, the confrontation seemed completely unbalanced.
However, the 33-year-old Spaniard proved all predictions wrong. Arriving on court with an iron will, he offered an unexpected level of tennis, covering his court to perfection and at times seeming to rediscover the game that had taken him to world No. 10.
Simply too strong for the world No. 15, the returnee prevailed in just 1 hour 17 minutes (7-5, 6-1) and will now face Max Purcell, ranked 68th, for a place in the last 16.
