Casper Ruud's US Open in Jeopardy: Practice Without Serving Fuels Withdrawal Fears
Casper Ruud's US Open at risk: he returned to practice without serving, after a shortened session and two days of rest.
Casper Ruud is providing little reassurance on the eve of the US Open.
After cutting short a training session midweek and taking two days of rest to try to relieve his back, the Norwegian returned to the courts on Saturday.
A Training Session That Fails to Reassure
As reported on X by fan "Oleg S.", who closely follows Casper Ruud, this session nevertheless did not send many positive signals.
The former world No. 2 trained for 45 minutes with a sparring partner, rather than another player. The session was at a relatively calm pace, with little movement and many shots from the center of the court.
Ruud Heading for a Withdrawal?
But above all, Ruud deliberately skipped serving.
A choice that suggests the Norwegian is still troubled by his back, three days before his entry into the US Open. A last-minute withdrawal seems increasingly likely for the tournament's No. 19 seed.
