Coco Gauff's Melbourne Meltdown: 'Locker Rooms Are the Only Place Without Cameras'
It was one of the scenes of the day on Tuesday at the Australian Open: Coco Gauff, extremely frustrated with her level of play displayed during her loss to Elina Svitolina (6-1, 6-2), took it out on her racket in the corridors of Rod Laver Arena.
A sequence captured by cameras that, unsurprisingly, was shared in the media and became the subject of questions for the American in the press conference.
'Locker Rooms Remain the Only Place Without Cameras'
Gauff admitted to trying to break her racket away from cameras, while emphasizing that privacy is becoming increasingly rare within tournament facilities.
'I was looking for a place without cameras. I've never been comfortable with this kind of broadcasting. A similar situation happened to Sabalenka after our US Open 2023 final. I feel there are things that don't need to be shown.
I tried to isolate myself so it wouldn't be filmed, but it still was. It's a topic we should perhaps discuss, because locker rooms remain the only place where we can still have real private conversations.'
