Craig Tiley: "The One Point Slam will bring people together around tennis"
The "One Point Slam", a new competition created by the Australian Open, will bring together 22 professional players and 10 amateurs in the same draw, with one million Australian dollars at stake.
All matches will be decided on a single point, using the rock-paper-scissors mini-game to determine the server and receiver.
"Bringing people together around tennis"
An event that will already feature big names from the ATP and WTA tours (Alcaraz, Sinner, Swiatek, Gauff) and on which Craig Tiley, the tournament director, commented:
"The One Point Slam is something completely unprecedented. Bringing together stars alongside Australians qualified through regional competitions perfectly reflects the DNA of this event: bringing people together around tennis in a festive and inclusive way."
In addition to aiming for the winner's check, the last amateur still in contention will also receive a car provided by Kia, the event's sponsor.
