Davis Cup: Frances Tiafoe's Nightmare Continues
Two straight-set losses, one set won in five matches, and a losing streak that keeps growing: Frances Tiafoe is going through a worrying period in the Davis Cup.
The United States will not be part of the Davis Cup Final 8 in Bologna this year, due to a strong Czech team led by Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik, but also because of the poor form of its leaders, like Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe.
Tiafoe, in particular, had a disappointing American summer (quarterfinals in Montreal, third round in Cincinnati and at the US Open) and was far from his best during this weekend's competition in Delray Beach.
Defeated in both of his singles matches without winning a single set, the world No. 29 now has a record of just one win and seven losses in the Davis Cup.
Even worse, he has only won one set in his last five matches in the competition. These are concerning statistics for the American, who will take a few days off before returning to the tour in Tokyo at the end of the month.
