World No. 65 Elsa Jacquemot saw her run at the Beijing WTA 1000 come to an early end after a defeat against Antonia Ruzic.

Having lost in the second round of the Beijing WTA 1000 qualifiers to Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (6-3, 6-2), Jacquemot was given a reprieve and a second chance.

Facing Antonia Ruzic, ranked 80th in the WTA, the French player hoped to reach the second round, but things did not go as planned. Plagued by her serve (12 double faults), Jacquemot was not solid enough on her service games (4 breaks conceded).

The 22-year-old player ultimately lost in two sets (6-3, 6-3 in 1 hour and 13 minutes) and suffered her second defeat in as many matches against her opponent of the day. Ruzic thus earns a glamorous second-round match against Paula Badosa, while Jacquemot's journey ends here.

Loïs Boisson, who will face the Hungarian qualifier Dalma Galfi in her opening match, is now the only French player still competing in the Chinese capital.
