Djokovic easy, Hurkacz more difficult in Monte-Carlo
Novak Djokovic made a convincing debut on the clay courts of Monte-Carlo. Exempted from the 1st round, the world No.1 completely neutralized the tennis of Russian Roman Safiulin on Court Rainier III.
Winning in just over an hour and two sets (6-1, 6-2), he reassured himself after his unconvincing performance in Indian Wells (beaten by Luca Nardi 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the 3rd round). The Serb will face Lorenzo Musetti or Arthur Fils in the 3rd round in Monaco.
Meanwhile, on the Court des Princes, Hubert Hurkacz had to battle for almost two and a half hours to defeat Jack Draper. He finally prevailed in the tie-break of the 3rd set, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(2). The Pole will face Roberto Bautista Agut in the 2nd round.
