The Serbian champion spoke frankly after his victory in Athens. Physically weakened, Novak Djokovic explained why he had to withdraw from the ATP Finals, delivering a lucid testimony about the limits of his body at 38 years old.

In Athens, Novak Djokovic had to dig deep during the final against Lorenzo Musetti, emerging victorious from a three-hour battle. A fight that left its mark on the record Grand Slam title holder, who suffered a shoulder injury and was forced to withdraw at the last minute for the Masters.

Speaking at a press conference after winning the 101st title of his career, Djokovic commented on his physical condition:

"Unfortunately, the shoulder injury worsened during the final. I already had problems during the tournament and I didn't want to make a decision before, to see how it would go.

After yesterday's match, I hoped it wouldn't flare up. But it didn't go well. I took strong medication to be able to play this match (today).

Now that the effect is wearing off, I have no illusions about my shoulder. I felt there was no way to play in Turin, especially with a first match on Monday.

I have had a lot of success at the ATP Finals. It's a good thing for him (Musetti). I wish him the best."

As we move to the end of this month and also closing out the year I am wishing all of those following me a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year.

Let's make that wish for all 2000 plus players hoping for 5 wins each day. Hoping ŵhen we open the results page to see all green, and no red. And especially NO CANCELED matches.

From me and my rotti JAZ, I bid you all good night, and see you in...

why did tennis tonic void predictions on the match between Chwalinska and Huergo at the Quito tournament? The match was played to completion and on time. If TT feels the match is one sided, and of course it was, then don't put it up for prediction. This is getting irritating.

The finals are here, and we scramble for the best finish. I've been chasing "King" all year and I was able to shrink the spread a little. Skelp is also closing the gap.

Seasons best to all the regulars in our league.

Will you all be back in the new year.?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.
