Djokovic/Kyrgios pair reach the last 16 of the Brisbane tournament
It was one of the events of the day at the Brisbane tournament. Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios were paired up for the men's doubles tournament.
This was the Australian's first appearance on the ATP circuit after almost two seasons out of action due to physical problems, notably with his knee.
As for the Serb, he will of course play singles to intensify his preparation for the Australian Open, but he has decided to play doubles as well.
It was an association that promised to make sparks fly. Opposed to the Alexander Erler/Andreas Mies pair, the two men put on a show for the spectators with some very fine points.
In the end, after a tight, indecisive match right to the end, Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios had the last word in the super tie-break of the third set.
As if on cue, an ace from Kyrgios brought the match to a close (6-4, 6-7, 10-8). See you in the last 16 of this doubles draw.
They'll be back on court on Tuesday for their singles opener this time. Kyrgios will be up against France's Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in a duel of big-serving players.
Djokovic, meanwhile, will face local Rinky Hijikata.
