"Do You Want a Player to Die on the Court?": Rune Lashes Out at Supervisor in Shanghai

Holger Rune did not mince his words in Shanghai: after suffering from heat exhaustion, he confronted the tournament supervisor with a shocking statement, denouncing playing conditions he deemed dangerous for the players.
The extreme playing conditions (combining heat and very high humidity) at the Shanghai Masters 1000 have led to surreal scenes.
Three matches on Sunday ended in retirements, including that of Jannik Sinner, who was overcome by cramps.
Early in the day, Holger Rune suffered from heat exhaustion during the first set of his match against Ugo Humbert. He confronted the supervisor during his medical timeout:
"Why doesn't the ATP have a rule regarding the heat? Do you want a player to die on the court?"
The world number 11 later regained his composure and secured his spot in the tournament's round of 16.
