Evans on the collaboration between Djokovic and Murray: "It's an intelligent decision".
Dan Evans spoke to the Daily Mail about the forthcoming collaboration between his compatriot, Andy Murray, and Novak Djokovic.
He says: "The news that Andy Murray would be Novak Djokovic's coach at the Australian Open excited me as much as anyone.
It makes sense for Andy: three weeks in the middle of the Australian summer, when his country's climate is not ideal for golf.
As for Novak, he's no fool, he didn't choose him just for the headlines. Andy is going to be an excellent coach.
He's pretty obsessed with everything he does, including golf, and this will be no exception. He also loves statistics and, of course, has an incredible work ethic.
Talking tennis with Andy is completely different to talking to anyone else, especially with his level of tactical insight and attitude.
Novak lost a few sets that he probably shouldn't have lost last year in the first rounds of Grand Slam tournaments, so maybe Andy can help him in that aspect to stay fresher in the finals.
It's a smart move on Novak's part. Andy can give him confidence in his abilities, but also, if things don't go well in training or in matches,
Andy won't hesitate to tell him, and I think that hasn't always been the case with the people who have coached Novak before.
I'm a fan of Novak. I'd like to see him win another Grand Slam title, and the fact that he's brought Andy in shows that he's still very keen to do well.
I feel like he was kind of forgotten last year, which is crazy.
A lot of tennis fans didn't take kindly to Novak, but in recent years they've started to really appreciate him, and now his battles with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, that's a story, and I think he's using it to motivate himself a bit."
