Fabio Fognini opens up: "I paid half a million euros in fines"
Now retired, Fabio Fognini left his mark through his temperament, which sometimes earned him heavy fines.
In an interview for the Rai Due channel, the Italian spoke on this subject: "I could have won much more, but because of my behavior, I received several fines.
A fine of 96,000 euros at the US Open
The heaviest was imposed at the US Open: 96,000 euros. In total, I think I paid about half a million euros in fines during my career. I never wanted to change to please others. I was always in the spotlight; a little less attention might have been beneficial for me."
Fognini was fined 96,000 euros in 2017 at the US Open due to sexist remarks made towards the chair umpire.
