Federer, Eternal Class: His Touching Letter Sent to Pietrangeli's Children
Federer's Tribute to Another Legend
On December 1st, Nicola Pietrangeli passed away at the age of 92. Very quickly, Roger Federer wanted to express his support to the grieving family.
First with condolences, addressed to the children of the former Italian champion.
A Handwritten Letter
Indeed, a few weeks later, on Monday, December 22nd, a letter arrived at the Pietrangeli family home. A letter written by Roger Federer himself.
And Marco Pietrangeli, Nicola's eldest son, agreed to reveal part of it:
"In the letter, Roger speaks of my father as a symbol and a fundamental figure for Italian tennis, but not only that. He also mentions the immense pleasure he felt every time they met, especially in Rome, during the Internazionali d'Italia."
Strong words, reported by ANSA and Il Corriere dello Sport, which testify to the sincere bond between two giants from different generations.
"Roger is like Maradona": Pietrangeli's Unforgettable Phrase
The tribute was mutual. Nicola Pietrangeli often praised Federer over the years. One statement, made before the Swiss player's retirement, remains etched in memory:
"Roger is like Maradona, from another planet. You get excited just by watching him."
A legendary phrase, worthy of the respect between two absolute icons of world sport.
