Federer: "Zverev is too passive to win a Grand Slam".
Roger Federer has spoken out about Alexander Zverev's difficulties in winning his first Grand Slam title. Particularly in the 2024 season, when he lost in the French Open final and was then beaten in the quarter-finals of the US Open, while Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic were already eliminated.
Roger Federer: "To win a Grand Slam, you have to play much more offensively... the title doesn't come to you.
When I watch him play, I see someone who plays far too passively, far too defensively in the decisive moments. Against the best players in the world, you have to take the initiative and play offensively. He didn't do that against Fritz (in the US Open quarter-finals).
He's not missing much. But to win a Grand Slam, you have to have confidence in your shots and play more offensively. He has to believe in that. Every cell in your body has to feel that this is the only right way. The title doesn't come to you on its own, especially not the first one."
