Ferrara, former physical trainer of Sinner, shifts the blame to Naldi, the physiotherapist
Umberto Ferrara, former physical trainer of Jannik Sinner, spoke about the doping case involving Jannik Sinner.
The Italian, suspended for three months for negligence, had thanked Ferrara when the matter became public.
The physical trainer defends himself and accuses Giacomo Naldi, the physiotherapist: "I have been using it (the incriminated spray) for years, on the prescription of a specialist, as a supportive treatment for a chronic illness.
I was fully aware of the prohibition and I have always kept it with the greatest care, in my personal toiletries bag.
I did not give anything to Naldi. I suggested he use it because he had a cut on his finger that was not healing and was complicating his work.
I clearly explained to Naldi the nature of the product and the necessity of never bringing it into contact with Jannik.
In fact, I only allowed its use in my personal bathroom. Naldi did not deny being informed, but claimed not to remember.
Upon hearing about clostebol, the connection with trofodermin was immediate. Within a few hours, we retraced the steps leading to Jannik’s contamination and I provided proof of the spray's purchase from a pharmacy in Bologna.
In hindsight, it's easy to say I would not do the same thing again. I certainly would not rely on the behavior of others.
I have been hurt by the superficiality, sometimes compounded by bad faith, with which many have treated my position in this matter.
Despite being 23 years old, Sinner has demonstrated extraordinary maturity in this situation, supported, in my opinion, by the belief of being right.
He has exceptional work ethic and dedication, which drives him to always surpass himself.
Working with Jannik is rewarding and stimulating. The last time we saw each other was in Doha, and we said goodbye.
I was very saddened by the end of our relationship, but I was aware that it could have been one of the possible outcomes."
