Fonseca Eliminated in First Round at Rome
Fonseca fell in the first round of Rome against Marozsan (6-3, 7-6). The Brazilian, who defeated Alcaraz in 2023, couldn't find answers against the Hungarian and lost in 1 hour and 27 minutes.
Making a high number of unforced errors (37), the player who triumphed in Phoenix this year was too inconsistent in key moments, converting only 1 out of 4 break points. After Estoril, he was eliminated in the opening round once again and now holds a 1-3 record on European clay.
Marozsan, meanwhile, comes off a semifinal run in Munich but also suffered an early loss to Cobolli at the Madrid Masters 1000. For a spot in the third round, he will face Rublev.
