For Djokovic, Alcaraz still has time to win Grand Slams: "He'll have time ... when I retire in about 15 years".
This Sunday, Novak Djokovic will be aiming for his 25th career Major title. He defeated a magnificent Musetti with authority in the semi-finals (6-4, 7-6, 6-4), and is now hoping for revenge against a certain Carlos Alcaraz.
Indeed, the final of this 2024 edition will be a remake of last year's superb final, won in 5 sets by the Spaniard.
Given Djokovic's character, it's not hard to imagine that he'll be keen to make amends by taking the trophy back from the young Spaniard.
Asked about this, the Serb, not without a dose of humour, declared his ambitions for Sunday: "I hope to win this time. I'm sure he doesn't. He's a good example of a young player. He's a good example of a young player with a well-balanced life. A good family... A lot of charisma... He behaves well on and off the court.
He's rightly one of the best 21-year-old players we've ever seen in this sport. We'll be seeing a lot more of him in the future, no doubt. He's going to win a lot more Grand Slams. I just hope it won't be in two days' time, not this time.
But he'll have time, I'm sure, in the future... when I retire in about fifteen years' time (laughs).
Joking aside, he already beat me in the final here last year in 5 sets. I'm not expecting anything less. A huge battle on the court. He's a complete player. I'm going to have to give it my all to beat him on Sunday."
