Four Frenchwomen Qualify, Five Others Eliminated: Today's Results in Wimbledon Women's Qualifying

After the men's first round took place throughout Monday, Tuesday marked the start of the women's singles qualifying first round at Wimbledon, with all 64 matches scheduled across the various courts of the London complex.
While Loïs Boisson, the No. 1 seed in qualifying, was defeated in her opening match, many other French players took to the courts on Tuesday, aiming to secure a spot in the second qualifying round.
On the positive side, four French players emerged victorious from their matches. Diane Parry held firm despite a rough patch. The 17th-seeded player from Nice overcame Ukraine's Oleksandra Oliynykova (6-1, 3-6, 6-3) and will face Alina Charaeva on Wednesday.
Another Frenchwoman to clear the first hurdle was Elsa Jacquemot. After reaching the third round at Roland-Garros, the Lyon native comfortably defeated Miriam Bulgaru (6-2, 6-2), firing seven aces, and will next play against Arina Rodionova.
Selena Janicijevic delivered one of the day's standout performances by defeating 11th-seeded Erika Andreeva in straight sets (6-4, 7-6). She will now face Petra Martic as she continues her quest for a main-draw spot in London.
The last French player in action today, Alizé Cornet—who missed Roland-Garros—overcame British player Katie Dunne, ranked 981st in the world. She will next take on Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva. Other notable qualifiers include Bianca Andreescu, Taylor Townsend, Victoria Mboko, and Iva Jovic.
On the downside, aside from Boisson, five French players saw their Wimbledon hopes end. Jessika Ponchet (defeated by Anouk Koevermans in straight sets), Chloé Paquet (eliminated by Céline Naef in three sets), Tessah Andrianjafitrimo (beaten by Solana Sierra in straight sets), Léolia Jeanjean (defeated by Veronika Erjavec in three sets), and Manon Léonard (who couldn't overcome Lanlana Tararudee) will not advance further.
