Hewitt Suspended After Aggressive Conduct Toward Anti-Doping Officer

Two weeks and 30,000 Australian dollars (approximately 17,000 euros)—that is the penalty imposed on Lleyton Hewitt this Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
The incident dates back to November 23 of last year during the Davis Cup semifinal between Australia and Italy. Frustrated by his team's defeat, the 44-year-old captain shoved a 60-year-old volunteer anti-doping officer.
As a result, after reviewing video evidence, conducting interviews, and hearing witness statements, the ITIA (International Tennis Integrity Agency) decided to sanction the former world number one for "offensive behavior toward an anti-doping control officer."
Despite his objections, he will indeed be suspended from September 24 to October 7, meaning after the match against Belgium this Saturday and Sunday.
Consequently, "Hewitt will not be able to participate in any tennis-related activities, including training, mentoring, playing, his role as captain, and any other associated functions," explained the ITIA. These remarks were reported by the newspaper L’Équipe.
