I'm happy I had enough energy to hold on," Alcaraz rejoices after his victory against Fritz
Carlos Alcaraz had to battle to overcome Taylor Fritz at the ATP Finals in Turin. The Spaniard needed 2 hours and 50 minutes to win in three sets.
He had lost the first set, despite having an early break. When asked about his feelings, Alcaraz stated: "After the first two return games, I had chances: in the first one, I had opportunities, and in the second one, I managed a break.
After that, I don't know what happened; I lost confidence on the return. I think he served very well. Honestly, I was disappointed not to be able to return a single serve. It was really difficult, even mentally, to stay focused.
However, I am very happy I found a solution. I simply stepped back one meter to have more time to return the ball. I had to run more, especially on the first two or three shots of each rally.
But I am very happy I had enough energy to hold on and win points. I am playing really, really well right now.
