In 2024, 48% of abusive posts addressed to players come from punters
Harassment of players on social networks is a scourge that has grown in recent years.
The BBC reports that 48% of abusive posts to players
come from punters.
This information comes from the Threat Matrix service, an artificial intelligence program for identifying abuse on social networks.
According to the program, 12,000 posts and comments have violated social network community rules. They have been seized to remove these messages, or even to delete the accounts responsible for the abuse.
Victoria Azarenka, member of the WTA Players' Council, declared: "This system creates a healthier environment.
It was essential for the WTA and its partner organizations to take significant steps to filter, block and report hateful and harmful comments.
No one should have to endure the hate that so many of us have faced through these platforms."
